Katherine’s parents sold her to the Seattle Agency when she was a small girl.  Katherine’s family needed the money to eat, and they could only afford one child.  Mister Nathan saw potential and incredible power in Katherine’s intrinsic ability.   As Katherine’s intrinsic power grew, she enrolled in the Academy.  From being sold into corporate slavery, to witnessing countless fellow young girls mistreated, in some cases abuses, Katherine became radicalized while at the Academy.  Her breaking point came as a school exercise turned into an excuse for her friend Angelica to be tortured for the amusement of the staff conducting the exercise.   Katherine created and nurtured underworld contacts to start a revolution.  Her goal was to destroy the Corporate structure entirely, and place herself at the head of the Agency, where she would oversee the training and cultivation of a new generation of young women’s power so they would protect themselves.   During her senior year at the Academy, Katherine tried to recruit her best friend Nicole.  Nicole instead turned Katherine into the Academy.  Katherine was expeled.  Incensed, she continued her holy crusade against the male dominated power structure that permeated every facet of life in Seattle.  Katherine reunited with her younger sister Lindsay and the two started their revolution together, attacking vulnerable Agency and Corporate targets.   Katherine was fed bad intelligence by Mister Nathan, which led her to believe that Nicole’s younger sister was the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe.  Thinking the girl had information she could weaponize, Karma kidnapped her and cruelly interrogated her.  She later learned it was all a manipulation so Nicole could manifest her intrinsic power after seeing something horrific like her younger sister tickle tortured.  Karma was taken into custody at the Agency.
