Lindsay was born into a life of poverty and tragedy.   When she was a toddler, Lindsay’s parents sold her older sister to the Seattle Agency after they discovered she had rather powerful intrinsic abilities.  Lindsay grew up barely remembering having a sibling, and didn’t run into her again until much later.  In exchange, Lindsay’s parents received a paltry sum of cash which they needed to survive on the Frontier.   When Lindsay turned 11, marauders attacked her family home, killed her parents, and torched the house.  She was able to escape and fled to Seattle, a city her parents always talked about in awed whispers.  She learned to live on her own, taking only the clothes on her back and her family’s heirloom katana.  The Agency learned what happened, and felt Lindsay was not discplined or principaled enough to join the Academy, yet they offered her a teacher, a sword grandmaster nicknamed Sun to help guide the young Linsday so she could stand a chance on her own.   Lindsay practiced the sword religiously, and became rather proficient in its use.  Additionally, she developed her intrinic abilities in adolescence, and started making a name for herself as a teenage mercenary on the streets.  She additionally earned the nickname Mirth from those who knew her best, due to the effect her intrinsic powers frequently had on people.   When she turned 18, Lindsay’s older sister Karma engaged her on the streets of Seattle.  Through tickle torture and a form of brainwashing, Karma forced Lindsay to recall memories that never happened.  As a result of finally finding someone to call family, Lindsay agreed to join Karma’s revolution, and later earned the nickname “The Tickler.”   After spending significant time with Karma, Lindsay realized that Karma frequently caused harm and misery in her wake, in the name of a greater good.  Lindsay became disenfranchised with her sister, and wanted to curb Karma’s more malicious tendencies.
