Amelie has taken in the life of luxury, and felt it is owed to her, since she is robbed of the right to wear the crown as queen someday. While she has languished in the despair of opulence for much of her childhood, she did take some classes at the Arcane Academy as a bit of a joke. As it turns out, Amelie is rather book smart, and is a quick study of magic when she focuses on her studies.
